I have a samsung ativ 500t, and it worked perfectly with 8.1 until it didn't. One day with 8.1 the device wouldn't boot into windows, just sits at the spinning circle with the logo. So i reset the device, put it back to 8.0 and factory settings, and it worked perfectly. Updated to windows 8.1 and no booting again. Through a bunch of system restores i finally figured out that problem is the sound driver. When on windows 8.1 it prevents the device from booting. Same behavior (unsurprisingly) if i try to install 10.
It's weird because everything works perfectly on 8.0. I'm not really sure why 8.1 suddenly made it die, and why the device works great under 8.0 and not on 8.1. It's annoying the crap out of me. Daughter whining cause she uses it for school work, and she either has 8.0 or no audio. Tried a complete reinstall of the os, tried various available drivers. Can't seem to figure this pita out. Samsung told me to basically get bent.

I'm sure you have done this, but since it isn't mentioned, make sure you get the latest drivers from Samsung before you update to Windows 8.1. To update your drivers from Samsung your best bet will be to use their Software Update program. The other option is to determine which sound chip is in your computer and then to download a Windows 8.1 driver directly from the manufacturer bypassing what Samsung has listed on their website.
You can also install Windows 8.1 without the sound drivers and have Windows Detect the chip and automatically download the appropriate driver as well. There has been a few updates to windows 8.1 in the past few months that has broken certain things for me. I had to downgrade a few drivers or disable them entirely to make my windows 8.1 tablet to function smoothly. I havn't had problems with my desktop or laptop running windows 8.1 but other systems like tablets and miniPC's have been running progressively finicky lately.

There are also certain updates that I uninstalled because of the conflicts they were causing. Right now some direct X11 apps and games crash my tablet and I can't out which update caused it so at the moment I have to run everything with directx 11 disabled. Seems i'm not the only one with this issue. Tried to update to windows 10, then the sound hardware won't work again on 8.1 or 10, and only 8 works going forward.
Tried new bios, tried clean install. Very puzzling. Nobody seems to be able to solve though.
Works, install windows 10, when soundcard installed won't boot. Sound card works if you start device, install it, and then don't turn it off. Only an issue at windows start up for windows 8.1 and windows 10. Works fine on windows 8. Too annoying for me to forget about it though. I'm just not sure what else could be hanging around. New bios and clean install SHOULD fix it, should it not?
